The Bob Newhart Connection

For nearly a decade Bob Newhart entertained audiences with his hit TV show, Newhart. In the show, Bob and his wife decide to leave their hectic life in New York City and buy a beautiful inn in Vermont. To our delight, Hollywood came knocking at the Waybury Inn’s door. They thought that the Inn captured the essence of the Vermont experience and wanted to depict us as Bob’s own Startford Inn!

For years, members of the cast and crew have dropped by to see how their beloved Inn is doing. Bob even sent our Inn’s owner, Tracey, some words of encouragement, as pictured to the right. The photo reads, “Tracey, Take care of my Inn!”  Bob can rest assured that Tracey has done just that.

If you’re planning a visit to the Middlebury area, we invite you to stay at the “real life” Stratford Inn.  For more information about our accommodations, click here.  Be sure to stop in and check out some props from the Newhart show: the Minute Man Café sign and the Stratford Inn sign are located inside the Inn! For a good laugh, ask Tracey about some of the kooky things that happened during the filming of the show.
